Ahhhh...finally! I'm officially a week into summer vacation, and wondering why anyone picks a career where they have to work through the summer. Emma and I are set to have a ton of great "adventures" this summer. When I asked her what she spouted out a very long detailed list, " We should play in the pool lots, go to the beach and catch crabs and get a frozen lemonade, go to the jungle, watch movies in the movie theater with popcorn, have lunch on our patio, get a puppy, and eat s'mores and strawberries and frozen peas." Obviously a few of those things will not be accomplished this summer, most notably going to the jungle and getting a puppy, but I did take her to Petco last weekend so she could see other people's dogs.
We started the summer house sitting for my uncle's girlfriend in Concord. She was at a wedding so we took care of her dog, three cats, and three ducks (yes, real ducks). Emma had a blast and I learned a few very important lessons. #1) Ducks do not like the hose. #2) Leashes are far more hazardous than they appear. #3) Emma is an animal whisperer, I swear. The ducks would eat from her hand and the dog would not leave her side. Even the shy cat came out to see her. All the animals hated me, but Emma was like a magnet.
Yesterday we took a walk at Gates Pond by our house. It's a nice little 2-mile walk around the town's water supply. We had a great time, although out picnic lunch ended abruptly with Emma needing to go to the bathroom. It's amazing how fast you can pack up a picnic, run 1/4 mile, get in the car, and make it home when a 4-year-old cries "Potty!" Anyway, here are a few pictures from the walk.
Today we went to the pool and after nap we're headed to the Bolton Library for a Fourth-of-July sing-along!
